It’s a new era for Toyota; the return of the Crown is here and it’s coming (back!) to their lineup as the all-new premium AWD sedan. The Crown is the first Toyota vehicle to offer the HYBRID MAX system, a performance hybrid system that estimates 340 horsepower.
History
The Toyota Crown first debuted in 1955 as the “Toyopet Crown.” It was their first mass produced passenger vehicle, and in 1958 became the first Japanese vehicle to hit American stores. The vehicle was last sold in the US in 1972, but now it’s back and is reimagined for 2023.
HYBRID MAX System
Across the 15 generations of the Crown, this next generation offers brand new innovative hybrid technology—the HYBRID MAX System. This new system is offered on the Platinum trim model and combines a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder Turbo engine with two electric motors to hit peak performance at an estimated 340 horsepower and a manufacturer-estimated 38 MPG combined city/highway rating.
Exterior
The Toyota Crown boasts a distinct exterior design with available 21-in alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a slightly higher lift compared to other Toyota sedans. Sitting 4” higher than its sibling Camry, it provides easier access in and out of the vehicle.
Interior Cabin
The Toyota Crown comes standard with heated seats, 8-way power adjusting seats, smart key system, standard backup camera with projected path and dynamic gridlines, dual climate zones and 12.3-inch MID display. The Limited and Platinum trims offer additional standard ventilated seats, panoramic moonroof, and wireless phone charging. The Platinum trim exclusively offers a Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan, which is a panoramic overhead view of the vehicle.
New Audio Multimedia System
The Crown features Toyota’s all new Audio Multimedia system featuring:
- 3-in touchscreen
- New connectivity and convenience features
- Interactive system with voice and touch activation
- A cloud based navigation system which offers real time updates for mapping and points of interest
- Dual Bluetooth connectivity with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability
- A Digital Key is offered on the Platinum trim via the Toyota app to unlock the front doors and trunk or to start the vehicle.
New Safety Features & Technology
Toyota’s Advanced Park System comes standard on the Platinum trim, which identifies open parking spots, controls steering, shifting, acceleration and braking for hands free parallel or perpendicular parking.
All new Crowns come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which has a Pre-Collision System with standard pedestrian detection. When making turns the system is designed to find any approaching vehicles and provide visual/audio alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions.
This vehicle will also have a Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist, which is designed to notify the driver if the vehicle is leaving the lane without using the turn signal. Lane Tracing Assist uses the lane markers to keep the vehicle centered in its lane.
Other safety features include Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Seat Reminder, Automatic High Beams, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Hill Start Assist Control.
There are currently no listed prices, but the 2023 Toyota Crown is expected at Lia Toyota this winter! Keep a lookout for updates about this vehicle on our Lia Auto Group Facebook page
