In December 2021, the Compact Cruiser concept won the 2022 Car Design Award for Concept Vehicles. Toyota has a history of capable off-road SUV's from the FJ Cruiser to the 4Runner and the Land Cruiser. The automaker has promised a bundle of all-electric, new vehicles by 2030 and we have the inside scoop.
Toyota's latest off-road inspired EV concept draws inspiration from the old luxury Land Cruiser and the adventure-ready FJ Cruiser. Keep reading to learn more about the recently revealed off-road EV concept.
The Off-Road EV Concept
Even though the FJ Cruiser hasn't been sold since 2014, Toyota still plans on staying competitive within the off-road segment while the market transitions to electric vehicles. Thus, the Compact Cruiser EV concept was born. The Compact Cruiser will be a new model for Toyota when it launches with (presumably) a different name.
It's expected the electric off-roader will share some suspension and powertrain components with other upcoming electric Toyotas. The instant torque generated from electric motors should make the Cruiser decently quick and adept at navigating rough terrain.
While nothing has been revealed yet about the electric powertrain, have no fear, the Compact Cruiser is off-road ready and adventurous. The concept is designed with 4 doors, a tall and boxy body, short front/rear overhangs and big fender flares. This off-road SUV looks properly prepared for the outdoor adventure with all-wheel drive and is fitted with a roof rack, skid plate, auxiliary lights and all-terrain tires.
